Good question, Lance!
While Jeff & I have never tabled at comic conventions, this would be a great discussion topic for a future show. We'll see if we can get some artists who've done both to talk about the different approaches!

Another awesome episode! This too was my first year at GenCon, though no booth this year. I walked around and showed my portfolio to Art Directors, met a lot of cool artists & people, scouted and made plans for my own future table. Your discussions on having a table at a con, print types (especially the whole self-stretching canvas prints), and your reflections on Gen Con were very interesting. Much more so because I'm currently preparing for my first table at a convention, though its going to be at a comic con. From the perspective of being an artist behind the table do any of you have different approaches for tables at Comic cons vs gaming cons?

Hello,
Was just introduced to this PodCast at GenCon 2010 and am starting to poke about and familiarize myself with it. This is a great post both entertaining and encouraging; a wonderful metaphor. I am glad to hear that your journey is going well and it is really cool to hear where it began and see how it progressed; the turning points, the pitfalls. I myself am at the end of my heroic tier beginning to slay my way to paragon tier. I can really relate to the whole getting-distracted-and-complacent-after-college-for-a-few-years trap, I fell into that one too, but am now climbing my way out.

Thanks for sharing your adventure thus far with us and I look forward to seeing where it takes in the future!

Coll you guys will be at Gen Con! It'll be my fifth or sixth year going, and though I am running game events I hope to get my portfolio reviewed! It would be awesome to hang with you and Aaron Miller! School alum!

Anyways, here's wishing you some good packing. I suggest listening to Tetris soundtrack while packing....might not make it easier but it'll be fun!

These are awesome tips, especially because I never get to see what the show looks like from an artist's perspective. I know I can't wait to drop by your table, both to say hi, and to see what new art you've got to show.

I can tell you that from my own perspective, the reason you give for people not browsing the art show are spot on. I feel a bit guilty when I don't buy stuff. I'm working on not feeling like that. You guys paid money to exhibit and though sales are good, it's also about getting exposed to the wider world; and who knows, I may need your services later on, or be able to refer someone your way, so it works out in the long run.

That said, I'm fairly sure I'll leave with one of your prints. :-)
