We’re a little late this month due to some technical issues, but here it is!
We’ve got a theme running through this one: being selective about the jobs you take. We discuss a rant by Harlan Ellison, and we’ve got an interview with Ray Frenden about spec work. We also talk about some of the physical ramifications of over-working yourself.

Look forward to listening this episode. Although I’m very familiar with Ray and Harlan’s rants, I could use the heat coming out of my speakers, ’cause it’s a little chilly in Chicago today.
On a serious note, if you draw for a living or if you want to draw for a living, listen to this episode. If someone asks you about which side of the “work for spec” issue you are on, you owe it to yourself and the community to know. It’s up to you to decide.
(For the record, I’m anti-spec. If you need work for your portfolio, then do pieces for yourself and get feedback from other editors, artists, and your grandma. Then listen to them. If you have a great portfolio, you’ll get the work experience, because someone will hire you to draw for them. Remember, working for spec isn’t the getting work experience. There is a vast difference in a working relationship between you and a client when you are getting paid. There’s much more at stake on both sides and expectations reflect that.)
RayF told me about the podcast and I loved it. You guys made me realize that I don’t want to be an artist anymore.
Instead I just want to listen to your casts.

Wow, i will never look at a contest the same way again.
I’m not done with the episode yet, taking a break, but you all should go over “how to price your work” (digital and traditionally) if you haven’t all ready. Because now i feel bad because i don’t know if i undercut this digital commission or not today :/
